(Previously-announced show; tickets are on sale now)
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Sept. 30, 2014) – The legendary crossover jazz group Pieces of a Dream plays an exclusive, intimate concert at the Palladium Theater Friday, Oct. 24 at 8 p.m., part of the Mahaffey on the Move series.
Jazz is among Philadelphia’s greatest contributions to American culture, right up there with American Bandstand, Leopold Stokowski and killer cheesesteak. And for more than three decades, keyboardist James Lloyd and drummer Curtis Harmon – known collectively as Pieces of a Dream – have been crafting some of the most exquisite contemporary jazz to emerge from the City of Brotherly Love.
Discovered as teenagers by legendary saxman Grover Washington Jr., who went on to produce the band’s first three albums, Pieces of a Dream massaged R&B and funk, new jack swing and smooth jazz into their eclectic, enveloping sound. “Our live show has always been intense and energetic,” Lloyd says. “We’re liable to just bust out into anything. We feed off each other and we feed off the audience. I think that’s one of the things that keep us around for as long as we have been, and sets us apart from others.”
Tickets are $30, $40 and $50, and may be purchased online at TheMahaffey.com, charge by phone at 727.893.7832 or in person at The Mahaffey Theater Box Office. The Mahaffey Box Office is open 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday or at least 90 minutes prior to any ticketed event. There are no added charges ever on tickets purchased directly from The Mahaffey Theater.
