BRADENTON, FL, September 29, 2014 – Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee announced today that it has acquired a facility in eastern Manatee County. The 6,700 square-foot building will house the organization’s Daybreak Adult Day Services program, which provides daytime care for elderly individuals while giving respite to their caregivers. The site may also offer extension services related to the organization’s programs including Home-Delivered Meals, The Food Bank of Manatee, and Friendship Dining.
The Meals on Wheels PLUS Board of Directors unanimously approved purchase of the facility in the Spring Lake Forest Business Park on State Road 70 East, in early 2014. The foreclosed building was previously a child’s daycare that had been vacant for approximately three years. Its discounted price, along with assistance from the Manatee County Board of Commissioners, brought the purchase within reach.
“We had been looking to find a suitable site and building for the Daybreak program,” said Maribeth Phillips, CEO of Meals on Wheels PLUS. “The layout of the new facility is perfect and the location will allow us to expand our offerings to Eastern Manatee County residents. We are grateful to the Manatee County Commissioners and community advocates who endorsed this expansion. We are thrilled with this opportunity.”
