TAMPA – Edelweiss, Switzerland’s leading leisure airline will increase its non-stop flights between Tampa and Zurich from two to three weekly frequencies as of June 2015. Flights will operate each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
“This is an effect of our success that we have seen on the route since its start”, said Alain Chisari, Edelweiss Chief Commercial Officer. “Thanks to the great partnership we have with Tampa International Airport, Visit St. Petersburg/Clearwater and Visit Tampa Bay, we have been able to grow our business in Tampa Bay on a sustainable basis and are very happy to even further expand our operation.”
“This service increase is evidence of Edelweiss’ commitment to the Tampa Bay area and the community’s support for more international service to Europe,” said Tampa International Airport CEO Joe Lopano. “Working with our community partners, we continue to introduce the world to the West Coast of Florida as a business and leisure destination which has resulted in an increase in our international traffic by 51 percent since 2010.”
“We are thrilled with the addition of the third Edelweiss Air flight into Tampa,” said Visit Tampa Bay President & CEO Santiago Corrada. “As we expand our sales and marketing initiatives into Central Europe, this flight will create yet another way for Swiss and European travelers to unlock the treasures of Tampa Bay.”
“We’re extremely pleased that Edelweiss is adding another flight because it shows that our brand is resonating with a new market,” said Visit St Pete Clearwater Interim Director David Downing. “This success proves that the key to growing our international visitation is through partnerships, and we couldn’t ask for better partners than Tampa International Airport and Visit Tampa Bay.”
The flights will be operated by an Edelweiss A330. In June 2014, Edelweiss long-haul aircraft underwent refurbishing to significantly improve the cabin. Edelweiss Business Class is now equipped with fully lie-flat seats and a new in-flight entertainment system including state-of-the art 16-inch HD Panasonic touch screens. Furthermore, Edelweiss has introduced Economy Max, which offers passengers almost 6 inches more legroom and many other amenities to ensure a comfortable flight. Edelweiss Economy Class also received a makeover with new seats and entertainment system.
