The Education Foundation of Sarasota County’s Classroom Grant Program, now in its 24th year, has received 456 Classroom Grant Applications as of the submission deadline last Friday. The demand for the program is at an all-time high. Last year, the organization funded 244 innovative curriculum-based projects. This annual signature program has brought cutting-edge teaching and educational adventures into the classroom. Teachers from every grade level and every public school in Sarasota County were invited to apply for grants of up to $1,000.
The organization is relying on the generosity and support of the community now more than ever. Additional grant sponsors and volunteers are needed to help the Foundation process and potentially award the increased number of applications. Volunteers are needed to read and score the applications. Grant reading sessions are scheduled for October 7th at the School Board Chambers, 1960 Landings Boulevard in Sarasota and October 9th at the Venice Community Center, 326 Nokomis Avenue South in Venice, from 9 am – 2pm. Readers can sign up for one or more hours by calling the Education Foundation at 941-927-0965.
The Education Foundation produces the program, raises the funds, sponsors grant-writing workshops for teachers, organizes community-wide grant-reading sessions, and produces an awards celebration and reception for grant winners. The Foundation engages individuals, corporations, foundations, and civic organizations to sponsor the grants that are named for them or in honor of a loved one. The Classroom Grant Program gives the community the opportunity to respond directly to teachers’ needs. Sponsors are encouraged to attend one of the grant reading sessions, are invited to meet the teacher who received their grant at the Grant Awards Ceremony and visit the classroom to see the grant in action. For more information on how you can support the Classroom Grant Program please call 941-927-0965.
