SARASOTA, FL (9/19/2014) – After much consideration, the AdFed Suncoast selected the Mental Health Community Centers (MHCC) last week as its American Advertising Federation (AAF) Suncoast Public Service Client for the 2014-15 year. AdFed Suncoast will provide marketing, design, and broadcast services to the MHCC as a meaningful volunteer opportunity for our membership. This selection comes from Adfed Suncoast’s first open Public Service Application in more than three years.
“Together with the AdFed Suncoast board and our partners, I am honored to lead the 2014-15 Public Service collaboration with Executive Director, Carolyn Eagen, of the Mental Health Community Centers,” said Kelly Christiansen, AdFed Suncoast Public Service Chair. “We seize this opportunity to create an evocative campaign that will provide our community with critically needed education and awareness on mental illness.”
The Mental Health Community Centers are a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Sarasota whose mission is to provide support services to adults with mental illness and disabling emotional problems. MHCC offers daily programs and activities that help those individuals affected by mental illness recover and transition into the mainstream. In an effort to educate the public and lift the shame from mental illness, MHCC also strives to create positive awareness in the local community and has been servicing Southwest Florida for over 40 years.
“A primary reason for reluctance in obtaining treatment continues to be stigma. Mental Health Community Centers are a vital resource and we are committed to community awareness. Assistance provided by Adfed Suncoast will facilitate awareness by way of a public service campaign to promote Mental Health Community Centers and a better understanding of mental health in our community, “ said Carolyn Eagen, executive director of MHCC. “An educated community can lift the stigma of mental illness, while reducing the preventable and horrific outcomes of disability and suicide that occurs when treatment is not provided.”
