August 2014 Marks 54 Consecutive Months of a Million-plus Rides!
HART ridership is up once again!
The numbers are in, and HART had a very big month for ridership in August, including another month of more than a million trips on HART bus service.
A total of 1,274,313 trips were taken last month, which marks the 54th consecutive month of serving more than 1 million bus rides. February 2010 was the last month with under 1 million rides. This continues a strong upward ridership trend for HART, with four straight years of record ridership. The agency has seen record ridership in 9 of the past 10 years.
“This ridership growth is impressive and shows a strong demand for service,” said HART Interim Chief Executive Officer Katharine Eagan. “It’s clear from these numbers that there’s a strong demand for transit and that the number of new potential riders is growing.”
Last month, August 1 saw the highest daily ridership throughout the month with 55,287 riders
MetroRapid ridership was 50, 216
11 days exceeded 50,000 riders
Year-to-date (October 2013 – August 2014), bus ridership is up 1.8 percent; an increase of 239,450 trips, compared to the same period last year
These savings are based on the cost of commuting by public transportation compared to the cost of owning and driving a vehicle, which in this APTA Transit Saving Report includes the August 14, 2014 average national gas price ($3.47 per gallon- reported by AAA), and the national unreserved monthly parking rate numbers.
APTA releases this monthly Transit Savings Report to examine how an individual in a two-person household can save money by taking public transportation and living with one less car.
