St. Petersburg, Fla. – The Chihuly Collection presented by the Morean Arts Center recently upgraded its unique Beach Drive facility by expanding its offerings to include a new temporary exhibition space that will feature glass artists from around the country in rotating showcases.
On October 1, the Board of Trustees of the Morean Arts Center will be pleased to welcome Kait Rhoads and her works of art to the Chihuly Collection through the end of the calendar year.
“We look forward to introducing Kait Rhoads to St. Petersburg and likewise to those locals and visitors being introduced to her, who will be amazed by her creations”, stated Chihuly Collection Executive Director Andy Schlauch. “Kait’s show is a wonderful testament to the importance and popularity of glass art around the country,” Schlauch continued.
Kait Rhoads, a resident of the Northwest since the mid-nineties, uses traditional Italian glass techniques as a base to create sculpture, vessels and jewelry. She received her BFA from Rhode Island School of Design in 1993 and her MFA from Alfred University in 2001, when she was awarded a Fulbright grant to study sculpture in Murano, Venice. Her collections include Seattle Art Museum, Tacoma Museum of Art, Carnegie Museum of Art, Corning Museum of Glass, Museum of Northwest Art, Palm Springs Art Museum, Racine Art Museum and the Shanghai Museum of Glass.
“I began studying art at Rollins College in Winter Park so I am more than thrilled to be able to return to Florida for this great opportunity to show a body of work at the Chihuly Collection in St. Petersburg” Rhoads stated. “I have a great reverence for Dale Chihuly and his work’s ability to speak to so many people; it is a great honor to be able to show near his work” she continued.
Rhoads’ show is set to open October 1 at the Chihuly Collection and will close in January 2015. Entry will be included with admission to the Chihuly Collection which is open daily, Monday through Saturday from 10AM-5PM and Sundays 12PM-5PM.
