The committee for the annual Charlotte Harbor Lighted Boat Parade, scheduled for Sunday December 14th 2014 met recently to determine how this 25th anniversary parade can be made even bigger and better than previous years. It was unanimously agreed that the parade this year will be staged at three different venues, allowing boaters to decide for themselves where they want to join in the fun! The full parade route, which is viewable on the Chamber website www.puntagordachamber.com and by clicking the link to the Lighted Boat Parade, remains fundamentally intact from previous years, starting on the north shore of the Harbor in Edgewater Lake, crossing the harbor to the Isles Yacht Club basin, before continuing east to Fishermen’s Village and under the US 41 bridges to Laishley Marina (for those vessels who can make it under the bridges). Although all boaters will be encouraged to participate in the full route, taking into account all the safety precautions that are in place for this large event, boaters this year can choose to join the parade at the entrance to the Isles Yacht Club channel, adding onto the parade of boats that did make the full crossing, once they have passed by. So, for anyone who is a little nervous of crossing the harbor at night, this is the perfect solution to still be able to participate and to enjoy the vast crowds that cheer on the boats on the southern side of the harbor. An additional third staging area for small craft is also going to be added nearby Fishermen’s Village. This will allow for dinghies, kayaks and smaller vessels to sail, row or paddle through Fishermen’s Village, enjoy the larger boats in the parade from a great vantage point there, before exiting the Village and hugging the shoreline of Gilchrist to end at the Tiki Bar at the Fourpoints by Sheraton. These additions will allow us to truly light up the harbor that night and allow for greater participation and a greater viewing spectacle for all to enjoy. Registration is free and registration forms can be downloaded from the website or by calling the Chamber Office at 941 639 3720. We are looking to make this 25th anniversary parade a great success and fun for participants and spectators alike. The Isles Civic Association is also offering you a free boat decorating seminar set for Saturday December 6th that will prove to you just how cost effectively you can create your very own floating Holiday marvel.
This year’s parade will be sponsored by Fishermen’s Village, Smugglers Enterprises, Clear Channel Radio, Charlotte Sun and hosted by the Punta Gorda Chamber of Commerce.
