TAMPA BAY, FL, August 26, 2014 – The National Center for Transit Research (NCTR) at the University of South Florida has named the Environmental Protection Commission (EPC) of Hillsborough County as a “Best Workplace for Commuters.”
This distinction requires a workplace to foster a culture of flexibility in its daily operation, so employees can make more environmentally-friendly arrangements for their commute. Best Workplaces for Commuters (BWC), a voluntary partnership program designed to cut traffic congestion and traffic-related air pollution, recognizes employers that provide environmentally-friendly commuter benefits to employees. The EPC is committed to reducing pollution, commuting costs, traffic congestion, and employee stress caused by single-occupant vehicle commuting.
The EPC offers incentives and amenities for workers who choose not to drive alone to work each day, or sit idle in traffic at rush hour. Working with TBARTA, the EPC offers flexible work schedules and ride-matching for carpooling and vanpooling, which is provided online by TBARTA. EPC employees also can receive half-price HART monthly transit passes.
“We look forward to working with TBARTA as part of the Best Workplace for Commuters program,” said EPC Director Dr. Richard Garrity. “Reducing vehicle emissions protects the environment and improves public health, two very important concepts to the staff at EPC.”
Offering commuter benefits is a win-win situation for employees who change their commuting habits save time, money and stress and employers who gain a competitive edge in employee recruiting and retention.
Congratulations to the Hillsborough County EPC for reaching this goal!
