Following up on the great success and widespread use of its OneBusAway app, HART is preparing to launch another GPS-based tool. OneBusAway’s new Text Messaging feature will provide transit customers their real-time bus arrival information via text message. Customers can expect to begin using this new feature officially beginning September 8.
“We’re excited that our customers can now use text messaging to request bus times. While we are happy with how our customers have been so quick to use the OneBusAway app, we know not everyone can download it or has a smartphone. With SMS, anyone with any cell phone can access real-time bus arrival information,” said HART Interim Chief Executive Officer Katharine Eagan. “This messaging feature will truly enhance the rider’s experience because they’ll have the answers they need right at their fingertips.”
Using the service is as easy as 1-2-3:
1. Find your three or four digit HART [stop ID number]. For example: 4804
2. Text HART 4804 to 41411.
3. Receive back estimated arrival times.
IMPORTANT: Be sure to text the word “HART”, followed by a space, and then the actual stop ID number. Message and data rates from phone carriers may apply.
Real-time bus arrival information via SMS is the latest in a long list of cutting edge technologies HART has recently introduced, from the OneBusAway platform. This is all part of the agency’s ongoing commitment to innovative solutions that result in superior customer service. By empowering the customer, HART believes, the entire transit operation and rider experience is improved. Instead of having to call the customer service center for a bus update, for example, they have the answers they need right in the palm of their hand.
