TAMPA, Fla. (Aug. 25, 2014) –University of South Florida students will show off their innovative research, entrepreneurial skills and groundbreaking inventions during the first week of the fall semester to state legislators, Florida Board of Governors members and business leaders from across the Tampa Bay region in what can best be described as a “Cirque du Student Success.”
The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 27, on the Tampa campus in the Interdisciplinary Science Building (ISA) located at 12030 USF Cherry Drive on the 7th floor.
The event will showcase more than 15 interactive, dynamic and diverse student creations representing almost every college at USF including Engineering, Business, The Arts, Arts & Sciences and Medicine as well as other areas such as the new Florida Center for Cybersecurity at USF; the Student Innovation Incubator; the School of Physical Therapy and the USF Sarasota-Manatee College of Hospitality & Technology Leadership.
The event promises to be a feast for the eyes and will be set up in a “Cirque” like atmosphere with live performing acts and demonstrations. Among the exhibits, guests will see the X-Labs Tesla Coil, which shoots electrical arcs over 4 feet long into the air with choreographed music, and the Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies demonstrating how they use 3-D printing technology to preserve history’s great treasures from around the world. USF’s very own iPad band “Touch” will also perform a set of songs on their iPad instruments.
The fun, fast-paced and extremely visual event will demonstrate how state investments pay dividends with new technologies such as ATV and subaqueous chairs to help injured and paraplegic individuals traverse the woods or go swimming; a cutting-edge generator that creates clean water and energy from wastewater; and the Whitehatters Computer Security Club, whose mission is to protect business and companies from cyber-attacks.
