Fast-casual chain leases new locations on West Platt Street and South Dale Mabry Highway
Tampa, Fla. – Responding to customer demand for a presence in South Tampa, Tijuana Flats recently leased two restaurant spaces in the area, with plans for Platt Street to open in October and South Dale Mabry opening early next year.
After the franchisee closed the West Platt Street location three years ago to pursue a burger concept, Tijuana Flats received numerous emails requesting that the restaurant come back to South Tampa. Now, the company has leased two new locations in Tampa on South Dale Mabry Highway and West Platt Street that will be operated as corporate stores.
“For the past few years, our goal at Tijuana Flats has been to expand in Tampa in a big way,” said Matthew Livingston, Real Estate Manager for Tijuana Flats Burrito Co. “These two locations allow us to adequately service different areas of South Tampa. Our next step is to enter into the Westshore market.”
Tyler Peterson, Associate of Retail Services for Colliers International Tampa Bay, represented Tijuana Flats in the leasing of the two spaces.
• Tijuana Flats leased a redevelopment space located at 4055 South Dale Mabry Highway in the Pizza Hut space across from Britton Plaza. The center will undergo renovations in the upcoming months.
The 2,500-square-foot facility has room for more than 90 seats and features a large outdoor patio. The location is scheduled to open in early 2015. Chris Zimmerman with Paradise Ventures is developing the property.
• The second Tijuana Flats will be opening in the chain’s former franchisee location at 1617 West Platt St. in Tampa. The 3,000-square-foot space allows for more than 100 seats with an outdoor patio. Tijuana Flats also leased additional parking for patrons.
Along with remodeling both the interior and exterior, the restaurant chain plans to repaint the building and install new awnings. The new location is scheduled to open in October 2014.
JoAnn Ferlita with Property Pro represented the landlord in the transaction.
“This location offered Tijuana Flats the unique opportunity to move back into a unit that had been a very successful location in the past,” said Peterson.
Tijuana Flats is also set to open a location at 13100 Seminole Blvd. Suite 105 in Largo at the end of 2014. Two new locations are in Fort Myers, one at 9990 University Plaza Drive near Gulf Coast Town Center, set to open on September 15, and another at 8001 Dani Drive Unit 1, which recently opened on August 18.
Tijuana Flats currently has 103 stores operating across Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Indiana, with 19 restaurants open in the Tampa Bay area.
