Artiom Chacon joins GLE’s Gainesville office as an Industrial Hygiene Technician. Artiom has over 5 years experience. His first job as an Industrial Hygienist was for the Army in the field of Biological Health and Safety which involved working in high-containment facilities also known as biological research laboratories (for reference see the movie Outbreak, where he is accurately portrayed by Dustin Hoffman). The work involved a very unique set of challenges due to the risk posed by the pathogens they worked with. In that setting, his work focused less on sampling and more on safety and compliance. After all, any small incident at the facility could become front page news. Eventually the work evolved into oversight of the entire safety program at a competing facility. This included everything from Biological Safety, to Radiation Safety, to Chemical Hygiene, Laser Safety, program review, incident response, etc. All of it always under the watchful eye and oversight of an alphabet soup of regulatory agencies.
