Thomas A. Sellers, Ph.D., M.P.H. to serve three-year term beginning in October.
TAMPA, Fla. (Aug. 20, 2014) – Thomas A. Sellers, Ph.D., M.P.H., executive vice president and center director of Moffitt Cancer Center, has been elected to the Association of American Cancer Institutes Board of Directors. His three-year term will begin Oct. 26.
The Association of American Cancer Institutes is made up of 93 of the nation’s leading academic and freestanding cancer research centers. The association’s Board of Directors works closely with its executive leadership to reduce the burden of cancer by enhancing the impact of these academic cancer centers through a comprehensive and multidisciplinary program of research, treatment, patient care, prevention, education and community outreach.
Sellers joined Moffitt in 2003. He became Center Director in 2012. His research focuses on ovarian cancer, and he also has active collaborations that involve breast, lung and prostate cancers. The underlying theme in his research is identifying inter-individual differences in cancer susceptibility and using that to inform approaches to cancer prevention, early detection and precision medicine to enhance outcomes after diagnosis.
Sellers earned his Ph.D. in Epidemiology and Master of Public Health from Tulane University’s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. He was a postdoctoral fellow in genetic epidemiology at Louisiana State University Medical Center.
