This celebrated award is given to individuals whose contributions have helped to uplift the shared life of our community. Business partners Klauber and Mancini have earned a unique place in Sarasota history for establishing the award-winning restaurant and catering legend known as Michael’s On East. These dynamic gentlemen have demonstrated their commitment to supporting local businesses. They have been recognized around town and around the world for their commitment to helping more than 500 nonprofit organizations throughout Sarasota and Manatee counties and giving back more than $1 million through in-kind donations, contributions, and partnerships. They were honored by Circus Sarasota in 2011 and Community Video Archives in 2008 for their philanthropic work.
Michael Klauber, originally from Buffalo, New York, is the founding President of The Sarasota-Manatee Originals, an organization boasting more than 50 independent restaurants throughout Sarasota and Manatee Counties. He also proudly serves as board chair of Visit Sarasota County. Klauber and his wife Terri frequently lend their talents, hospitality and support to local nonprofit organizations and enjoy being part of the thriving cultural community of Sarasota.
Phil Mancini, originally from Rhode Island, has been working in the restaurant industry since he was fourteen years old. While his partner, Michael Klauber, is in charge of the restaurant, Mancini heads up the catering division of Michael’s On East. Mancini, in business with Klauber at Michael’s On East for 25 years, is beloved by socialites, nonprofit leaders, and his immense staff as having a passionate dedication to delivering excellent food and service.
