Stuff the Bus for Teachers Huge Success Thanks to Community, Sponsors
Officials from United Way of Pasco County were on hand last week at Pine View Middle School to celebrate the successful Stuff the Bus Campaign.
“This year we had almost twice as many teachers request supplies,” said Duggan Cooley, President/CEO, United Way of Pasco County, “we are proud to present every one of them with supplies to start their school year.”
August 1-3rd, school supplies were collected at Publix and Walmart stores at 14 locations throughout the county. An estimated $40,000 worth of supplies and donations, with more than $4,500 in cash and gift cards were donated by shoppers. 300 volunteers participated to collect supplies over the weekend, and an additional 60 volunteers unloaded the buses, sorted supplies and packed 1,265 teacher boxes at Pine View Middle School the following Monday and Tuesday! 360 volunteers in total participated over the 5 days event.
National surveys indicate that teachers spend more than $400 of their own money buying supplies as the school year begins. Stuff the Bus for Teachers is a way to show our teachers how much they are appreciated and provide a sort of care package to kick off their new year.
“This event is very personal to me. I have family that teaches in Pasco County. I know how hard they work to give our kids the best classroom experience possible. The United Way of Pasco County is grateful for the support of our volunteers, sponsors and community for making this year a tremendous success!” Stefanie Pontlitz, Director of Development, United Way of Pasco County.
