Palm Harbor, FL – The Witch’s Brew Café/Pub is proud to present the next free session of the “Learn About the Herb” educational series on Tuesday, August 12th at 6:30 pm. In this month’s sessions, we will focus on Current Laws & Public Safety regarding Medical Marijuana. Did you know “658,000 arrests for marijuana possession were made nationally in 2012, according to F.B.I. figures, compared to 256,000 for cocaine, heroin and their derivatives? Even worse, the result is racist, falling disproportionately on young black men, ruining their lives and creating new generations of career criminals.” – New York Times editorial.
John Chase & Dani Hall will be presenting information on Public Safety issues with current statistics from the Colorado “experiment” and specific statistics from Pinellas County. John Chase is a retired engineer and activist for drug policy reform since 1998. In 2013, he volunteered to help United For Care make a difference for patients in Florida. He is on the advisory boards of two other non-profits advocating for drug policy reform. He believes drug prohibition is the most destructive social policy since the Jim Crow laws of the Old South.
Dani Hall is a Research Biologist/Environmentalist and activist for over 14 years. She’s worked with the Natural Resources Defense Council, Greenpeace, and Food Democracy Now. She is currently the North Pinellas Chapter Leader for United for Care, the Medical Marijuana Campaign and a former medical marijuana patient.
We also have a special guest, Amanda Colón, who is running for Circuit Court Judge, Group 21 and will give a brief presentation.
This month’s topic on the “Current Laws & Public Policy” continues the 8-month series which occurs on the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of the month and run through October. Each month highlights a certain facet of the issue: 1) Marijuana as Medicine, 2) Economics of the Cannabusiness Industry, 3) Politics of getting it Legalized, 4) the opportunities with Hemp, 5) History/Heritage of Cannabis, 6) current and future Laws/Regulations, and 7) Spiritual/Recreational/Creative Uses.
The format will allow attendees the opportunity to ask questions and share thoughts on the subject. For more information on the Medical Marijuana Amendment, go to www.UnitedForCare.org.
