(BROOKSVILLE, FLORIDA) –The Hernando County Public Library System is pleased to announce the reopening of the East Hernando Branch Library on Tuesday, August 19. The branch has been closed for repairs since July 2013 after an arsonist set fire to the library and caused major damages to the building and the library’s collection.
Reconstruction is nearly completed and the building will reopen to the public on Tuesday, August 19 returning to the regularly scheduled hours for this location (Tuesday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and closed Sundays and Mondays).
Temporary library services have been offered since March at the Ridge Manor Community Center Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 pm. The Community Center generously provided the Library with designated space and a no-cost lease agreement. The final day of library services at the Community Center will be Friday, August 15. The Hernando County Tourism Department’s East Visitor Information Center has been serving as a book return location since July of last year. The final day for this service will also be on August 15.
A Grand Reopening Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, September 6 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. This will include an opening ceremony, ribbon cutting, refreshments, and an afternoon filled with activities, giveaways, and fun for all ages.
