Saint Petersburg Preservation, Inc. (SPP) is pleased to announce the nomination period for the 2014 Preservation Awards. The awards recognize the people, associations, and businesses that are actively working to preserve, restore, and complement the city’s historic buildings and places. Nominations can be made by building owners, neighbors, neighborhood associations or other groups. Nominations are an excellent way to recognize those individuals who Preserve the ‘Burg!
The 2014 Preservation Awards will take place on Friday, October 24th at the Studio at 620, in conjunction with an exhibit and sale of watercolor paintings of area landmarks by local artist Robert Holmes. (Examples attached.)
“The Preservation Awards are a great way to highlight our community’s landmarks and for neighborhoods to take pride in the buildings and features that make their area unique and special,” said Logan Devicente, SPP’s awards program chair.
The awards recognize exemplary efforts in historic preservation in four categories: Residential and Commercial Restoration and Rehabilitation; Compatible Infill; Adaptive Reuse; and Residential and Commercial Stewardship. There will also be an award for Preservationist of the Year. Detailed descriptions of each category are available on the SPP website: http://www.stpetepreservation.org/2014-Preservation-Awards Nominations will be accepted until September 15th, 2014.
SPP works to foster an appreciation of St. Petersburg’s historic environment by educating the public about local historic resources, landmarking deserving sites and structures, and recognizing the people and business that help achieve this goal
