GTE Financial is leading the way for students in Tampa Bay, opening its flagship student-powered financial center location on June 30 in Centro Ybor, as well as a location slated to open in August on the Southeastern University campus.
The launch of GTE’s student-powered concept benchmarks the first true student operated financial institution location in the region, employing students from local accredited colleges such as Hillsborough Community College and the University of South Florida to run the day-to-day operations of a GTE Financial Community Financial Center. Each student employee will gain professional experience and hands-on learning related to operating a business.
“We’ve recruited an amazing group of talented local students who are interested in helping us bring this unique model to life,” says Joe Brancucci, CEO and president of GTE Financial. “By enlisting these students to engage their peers in financial practices, we’ll be better able to reach young, prospective members and get them on the right path to future financial success.”
These student-operated financial centers will also feature the latest in banking technologies such as ITMs (Interactive Teller Machines) and a technology bar for enhanced member service. The student-powered locations will serve GTE’s current and future members, as well as students.
Brancucci adds that students who are hired for these part-time positions receive competitive pay, paid holidays, paid time off and access to an employee computer purchase program, as well as the opportunity to earn credit toward their degree if they attend a participating institution.
The first group of 10 student employees began their training program in December. GTE will continue to accept applications and has plans to extend the reach of the concept to the Hillsborough Community College Southshore campus.
