Tampa, Fla., July 11, 2014 – Burr & Forman LLP is pleased to announce that its Tampa office managing partner, William (Bill) J. Schifino, Jr., was recently named president of the Hillsborough County Bar Foundation for the 2014-2015 term. This announcement follows his recent recognition as Outstanding Lawyer of the Year by the Hillsborough County Bar Association.
The Hillsborough County Bar Foundation was established in 1996 as a charitable entity by the Hillsborough Bar Association with a mission “to support and promote programs and projects which encourage assistance to the poor, disabled and disadvantaged, primarily with regard to their legal needs and to educate the public about the legal system.”
Schifino is a past-president of the Hillsborough County Bar Association and currently represents the lawyers in the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit on the Florida Bar Board of Governors. He recently completed an eight-year term as a member of the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Nominating Commission, serving as its chairman, appointed by both Govs. Jeb Bush and Charlie Crist.
At Burr & Forman, Schifino focuses his practice on commercial litigation, including securities, intellectual property, and business tort litigation. He has extensive experience litigating and arbitrating complex business disputes before Federal and State Courts, and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Inc. He also serves on the firm’s Executive Committee.
In the community, Schifino serves on the board of trustees for his alma mater, the University of Florida’s Levin College of Law. He is an active member of the Tampa Bay Partnership and was a former leader for many years in both the Boys & Girls Club and the Tampa Bay Little League.
Schifino is certified by The Florida Bar as a specialist in Business Litigation Law. He is also frequently recognized by his peers with accolades from Florida Trend’s Legal Elite and Super Lawyers. He has been selected for inclusion in Best Lawyers in America in the area of commercial litigation annually since 2008, and he was named by the publication as “Lawyer of the Year” in securities litigation for Tampa in 2014.
In addition to Schifino, six other Burr & Forman Tampa-based attorneys were inducted into leadership with the Hillsborough County Bar Association on June 5.
