William G. and Marie Selby Foundation awards funding for new truck
SARASOTA, Fl.—June 28, 2014— All Faiths Food Bank announced today that a new refrigerated truck has been purchased through a grant of $70,000 fromthe William G. and Marie Selby Foundation. All Faiths Food Bank, as a result of the recent Campaign Against Summer Hunger, has expanded and added new food assistance programs and mobile pantry distributions throughout Sarasota and DeSoto County to provide food to students and families during the summer months. Also working with the Sarasota County School District to enhance its meal programs, a new truck became a priority to fill a vital need when 50% of our students experience hunger during the summer more than any other time of the year.
The purchase of the new refrigerated, 36-foot-long box truck – the largest of the Food Bank fleet – was necessary to facilitate the increase in programs and need in our community year round as well. Every morning Food Bank trucks are loaded with food for delivery to more than 100 partner agencies and pantries including Free Indeed, Caritas, the Salvation Army, local churches, and our own mobile pantry distributions. As they return to our 20,000 square foot warehouse, they stop and pick up donations from local retail stores, and collection sites like Goodwill locations.
“William and Marie Selby’s generosity and foresight has been crucial to our mission,” said All Faiths’ CEO Sandra Frank. “This new grant will help us provide food to the increasing number of hungry families here in our community, and meet the greater demand experienced in the summer when school is out and donations are at their lowest. For this we are extremely grateful to the Foundation.”
A media conference and dedication event is planned for the third week of June to celebrate the Food Bank’s new truck that will ensure that food will be provided to families in need for years to come.
