Gourmet restaurant, from culinary arts program that benefits the homeless, will be the newest offering included within illustrious upgrades at Westshore Center
Tampa, FL — Metropolitan Ministries and Avison Young, the world’s fastest-growing commercial real estate services firm, announced “Inside the Box Café” will open its second location at Westshore Center, a class A office building located at 1715 N. Westshore Blvd in Tampa, Fla. The property, which recently underwent a nearly $1 million renovation project, has sought out high-end amenities to meet the tenants’ and area’s growing demand.
Inside the Box Café, an artisan dining location, is a result of the charitable work of the Culinary Arts Program sponsored by JP Morgan Chase Bank, which prepares homeless clients for a career path to culinary excellence. With each meal that is ordered, a meal is donated to others in need who are homeless or hungry.
“The significant capital improvements made by Westshore Center ownership has positioned the property as a premier address in the corridor. It was important to provide our tenants an impactful amenity that was in line with the overall direction,” said Clay Witherspoon, Principal and Managing Director of Avison Young’s Tampa operations, who along with Lauren Coup, Vice President with Avison Young, is the exclusive leasing agent for the building. “The Metropolitan Ministries commitment to social entrepreneurship, coupled with unrivaled quality offerings made Inside the Box Café a perfect fit for the building.”
The first Inside the Box Café opened in 2010 at 505 N. Tampa Street and has three employees. The second location, which will have five employees, celebrates its grand opening on July 17th with a ribbon cutting with, Mayor Bob Buckhorn, Hillsborough County District 3 Commissioner Lesley Miller, and the South Tampa Chamber of Commerce.
Managed by former Metropolitan Ministries residents and staffed by interns who are current residents, Inside The Box Café is a thriving success story. Previously homeless and unemployed, the Metropolitan Ministries’ residents are the driving force behind Inside the Box. Graduates of the Uplift U® self-sufficiency program supervise the café while others support the catering division. The formerly homeless students are now fully employed and learning to live independently. For more information on Inside the Box Café, visit www.ITBcafe.org.
