Tampa, Fla. – July 2, 2014 – Carlton Fields Jorden Burt Tampa Shareholder Sylvia H. Walbolt will serve as president of the Florida Supreme Court Historical Society. She was sworn in during The Florida Bar’s Annual Convention held June 25 to 28 in Orlando Florida.
The Historical Society helps preserve the history of Florida’s judicial system and educates the public about the work of the courts in protecting personal rights and freedoms, as well as resolving the myriad disputes that arise within the state.
Over the last 50 years, Walbolt has had extensive experience handling appeals in both federal and state courts, in all areas of the law, including torts, products liability, business disputes, construction law, securities laws, class actions (including the Class Action Fairness Act of 2005 and class certification issues), constitutional, insurance, antitrust, and employment law. She has appeared as counsel in numerous published opinions, and also has appeared on behalf of amici curiae in many appeals.
She is board certified in Appellate Law by The Florida Bar and is a former chair of its Appellate Practice Committee. She served as a member of the Florida Supreme Court’s Committee on Standard Jury Instructions (civil), and chaired it as well. She is a former president of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers and is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. She is also former chair of the College’s Committee for Teaching Trial and Appellate Advocacy.
