(Southwest Florida) The city of Sarasota has declared March 25th to be Mary Ann Robinson Day in honor of the Sarasota resident’s philanthropy and years of community service. A proclamation was presented by Commissioner Suzanne Atwell during a luncheon hosted by Designing Women Boutique.
There was standing-room only as a crowd of well-wishers gathered to honor and thank Mrs. Robinson, who is widely regarded as one of the area’s most dedicated volunteers who has benefitted many charities and touched countless lives during her decades of community involvement. Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, Mrs. Robinson has been a Sarasota resident for more than 30 years.
The luncheon was hosted at Designing Women’s new Art & Furniture Gallery in downtown Sarasota, with catering provided by Michael’s on East. Ida Zito, board president of Designing Women, presented Mrs. Robinson with a tribute book filled with warm wishes and remembrances, many referencing her warm personality and her willingness to tackle unglamorous but necessary tasks throughout her years as a volunteer serving those in need.
Many leaders of those organizations that Mrs. Robinson has served were present at the luncheon, including representatives from the Asolo Repertory Theatre, Sarasota Ballet of Florida, Circus Sarasota, Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe, The Players Theatre, SPARCC, Goodwill Manasota, the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, The Gulf Coast Community Foundation and Circus Sarasota.
Mrs. Robinson is a founding member of Designing Women and currently serves as a board trustee and special advisor. Joining her at the event were Founder and current CEO Jean Weidner Goldstein, along with Co-Founders Diane Roskamp and Margaret Wise.
