“Morning Edition” hosted by Carson Cooper earned a national award for
“Best Newscast” in mid-sized newsrooms
TAMPA, Fla. (July 2, 2014) – WUSF Public Media was recently honored at the 2014 Public Radio News Directors Incorporated (PRNDI) Awards. The weekly news program, “Morning Edition” hosted by Carson Cooper received first place for “Best Newscast” in mid-sized newsrooms.
The winning newscast, which aired on WUSF 89.7 on May 8, 2013, features host Carson Cooper covering news topics such as the expansion of health insurance in Florida, human trafficking issues throughout the state and the latest local college football hall of fame inductees. The program also includes a story on Florida’s growing citrus greening crisis by WUSF reporter, Bobbie O’Brien. The engineer for “Morning Edition” is Craig Georg. Carson Cooper has been the host of “Morning Edition” for nearly fifteen years. A beloved and familiar voice in the Tampa Bay area, Cooper has worked in Florida radio for more than two decades. He is also the host of WUSF 89.7’s “Florida Matters.” During his time at WUSF, Cooper has reported on a variety of important community issues including growth management, education, transportation, affordable housing, taxation, public health and the environment.
