Patricia Petruff, a senior partner of the Dye, Deitrich, Petruff & St. Paul law firm in Bradenton was recently presented the 2014 William C. Grimes Award for Lifetime Achievement in Community Service. Ms. Petruff has been an attorney in Manatee County for over thirty-five years. She started practicing law in 1978 and since then has provided numerous hours of pro bono legal work for Myakka City Historical Society, Galvano One Stop Center, Lemur Conservation Foundation, Children’s Academy of Southwest Florida and Manatee County Girls Club d/b/a Just for Girls, Inc.. Her work for these organizations ranged from obtaining permitting approvals from local agencies, assistance with review of real estate contracts, leases, state grants and filing of incorporation documents.
She has been also involved in numerous professional and charitable organizations. She served as the first woman President of the Manatee County Bar Association in 1987 and she has also served on the Bar Association Board of Directors and the Library Committee. She also chaired the 12th Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee and served on the Board of Gulf Coast Legal Services. She has acted as a judge for local Moot Court competitions and for the Florida Bar Justice Teaching program.
Her charitable organizations include serving as president of Children’s Academy of Southwest Florida, Just for Girls Academy and Just for Girls Inc.. She is a member and on the Board of Directors of the Manatee County Audubon Society. From 1991-2001, she raised puppies for Southeastern Guide Dogs Inc.
Ms. Petruff’s affiliations with Government Advisory Committees include service on the Children Services Advisory Board, Manatee County Comprehensive Planning Citizens Committee and as chair of the Manatee County Human Rights Advocacy Committee.
She has served as a Member in many other community activities including Florida Planning & Zoning , Leadership Florida, Leadership Florida Alumni, Manatee Chamber of Commerce as a Board Director and American Association University of Women, receiving a Leadership Award. She has also been a member of the League of Women Voters, Manatee Commission on the Status of Women and was a charter member of the Manatee Memorial Women’s Health Committee.
Ms. Petruff received her award at the June monthly Manatee Bar Association luncheon which was well attended by her peers and staff members.
