Tampa, Fla. – July 1, 2014 – The Florida Diversity Council today presented Nancy J. Faggianelli, Carlton Fields Jorden Burt’s Chief Diversity Officer, with the LGBT-Allies Leader Award. Faggianelli received the award during the Council’s LGBT-Allies Diversity Summit in Orlando, Florida at the Wyndham Orlando Resort.
Faggianelli was selected as the recipient of this award based on her visibility in the LGBT community; ability to create awareness and increase communication and understanding of the LGBT community; ability to make significant contributions to the promotion of broadening civil adoption and/or acceptance of LGBT equality in the workplace and the community; support of the LGBT community in shaping a future where everyone can live authentically and completely; and reputation with colleagues and superiors.
Faggianelli is a shareholder with Carlton Fields Jorden Burt and is the firm’s first Chief Diversity Officer. Throughout her 32-year career in law, she has dedicated hundreds of hours of pro bono service to advance the rights of LGBT individuals in Florida and the acceptance of LGBT equality in the workplace and the community.
Within the firm, Faggianelli spearheaded the formation of its Gay and Lesbian Equality Network (GLEN), and continues to lead GLEN in addition to serving as the firm’s Chief Diversity Officer. She has contributed to creating a culture where LGBT attorneys and staff are supported and embraced. Additionally, she has spearheaded, led, and assisted other firm attorneys in pro bono matters impacting the lives of LGBT individuals and couples. Currently, Faggianelli is working with several other firm attorneys in a lawsuit the firm recently filed in Miami challenging the Florida ban on same-sex marriage.
