ST. PETERSBURG, FL – On Friday, June 6, the Rays Baseball Foundation, the official charity of the Tampa Bay Rays, awarded a total of $100,000 to 20 local nonprofit organizations through the Community Fund Grant Program and the Junior League of St. Petersburg’s Back-to-School Care Fair Committee was one of the organizations honored with a $2,000 check.
Committee Co-Chair, Ashlyn Lazenby, and Community VP, Heather McKee, were recognized during a luncheon at Tropicana Field and had a chance to network with other charities in the Tampa Bay area. They also participated in a question and answer session with Rays players David DeJesus and Ryan Hanigan, as well as Senior Vice President of Business Operations, Brian Auld, a Rays Baseball Foundation board member.
DeJesus and Hanigan are among eight Rays players who contribute to the Rays Baseball Foundation annually. That list also includes Evan Longoria, Ben Zobrist, James Loney, Jose Molina, Joel Peralta and Grant Balfour.
The Care Fair Committee is honored to be the recipient of this grant for the second year in a row and thankful for their partnership with the Rays as they have provided funding for the event for three years now. The money will be used to provide school-aged children in the community with the necessary resources to begin a healthy and progressive school year with such services as health screenings, community organization resources, and backpacks filled with school supplies that will be distributed to all children. The Junior League of St. Petersburg appreciates the assistance that the Rays Baseball Foundation provides as they attempt to build a better community!
