Tampa, FL, June 24, 2014: For the second time in as many years, LearnSmart is supporting Computer Mentors Group in an effort to “Bridge the Digital Divide” by donating both cash and product. This year LearnSmart is donating over $10,000 in product, plus it is making a cash donation of $2,000. The donation will be used by Computer Mentors Group to support its summer version of the STEM Corps High School Program.
STEM Corps High School Program is a unique Information Technology program that takes students through phases of development and provides them tools like Microsoft Office certification; skills in web design, videography and mobile app development; and real-world experience in leadership and project management. These skills make students attractive candidates for internships and employment in the information technology industry.
STEM Corps is offered as both an after-school and summer program, and has just completed enrollment for the summer program. The youth will use the LearnSmart eLearning system to assist them in obtaining Microsoft Office certifications. They will then continue using the eLearning system to enhance their skills that will be used to accomplish a summer project for other non-profit organizations in the area. Last summer the projects included two websites, a phone app, a graphical project, and a video for five (5) different non-profit organizations. The program is free and works with youth ages 14 through 18 years of age.
“Supporting youth and the local non-profit community is a natural for us” says Jay Gandee, President of LearnSmart. “For this reason, LearnSmart proudly partners with Computer Mentors Group in their efforts to train the next generation on Information Technology professionals.” To support the effort, LearnSmart has opened its complete library to the youth and employees of Computer Mentors Group.
“I want to personally thank LearnSmart for the donation” says Ralph Smith Director of Computer Mentors Group. As a non-profit we run a very lean organization and this donation of both eLearning and cash will assist us to be able to help more youth and other non-profit organizations.
