It’s been a long time coming, but PFC Stephen Peterson will finally be moving into his new home on June 26th. After suffering an IED explosion while deployed in Afghanistan during July 2011, and the loss of a limb, Stephen has been on a long road to recovery. Spending two years at the San Antonio Military Medical Center, he was finally able to move back to his native state of Florida last year. Community Partners in Revitalization (CPR) in conjunction with Texas-based Operation Finally Home (OFH) reached out to Stephen to offer him a mortgage-free home in the city of St. Petersburg. CPR and OFH will award him the keys to his new home at 10 a.m. on the 26th of June; Mayor Rick Kriseman will be there to welcome Stephen to the city of St. Petersburg.
The wall raising ceremony took place in October 2013, but due to unforeseen circumstances and market conditions, the project was stalled for a brief period. However, Meritus Corporation, owned by Brian K. Lamb and founder of CPR, put the project back on track in April. “It has truly been a community effort and we could not have completed the project without vendors, suppliers, and tradesmen working together.” Some of them went above and beyond by offering their services or supplies for free. Others gave CPR a discount and volunteers from Meritus Corporation stepped in to provide some labor. All in all, it has been a huge undertaking and CPR would like to thank those that have participated.
The Dedication Ceremony gives us a chance to thank the many people from our community who came together to help make the construction of this new home a success. Donors, volunteers, board members, staff and our local community all worked together to help carry out the mission of Community Partners in Revitalization. Meritus Corporation, OFH and CPR invite you to join us for the dedication ceremony on June 26th at 10 a.m. at 1771 12th Avenue South in St. Petersburg.
