Professional drivers now have a convenient option to complete their physicals
June 16, 2014 – Clearwater, FL – Doctors Express in Clearwater has a DOT certified physician on staff to help professional drivers comply with new Department of Transportation regulations to operate commercial vehicles. These new regulations require all professional drivers to obtain a physical from a physician certified by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
Recently the DOT added an additional requirement requiring that all physicians performing the exams must be certified and registered by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). The certification material was presented in an online course provided by the National Academy of DOT Examiners, and all doctors had to pass a final certification test. Doctors Express Clearwater’s physician took and passed the test and is now certified.
Paul Peiffer, owner of Doctors Express Clearwater agrees that “all professional drivers, including long-distance truckers, limousine drivers and taxi drivers, need to be physically qualified to operate their vehicles, to help ensure safe travels for everyone on the road.” The physical includes checking visual acuity (with or without glasses or contact lenses), color discernment, auditory acuity, blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Drivers suffering from high blood pressure controlled through medication or diabetes controlled by diet can still receiving a passing grade on the physical.
Professional drivers are busy and often had trouble making time for their physicals. Doctors Express Clearwater has solved that by offering versatile hours, seven days a week at a convenient location. Peiffer adds “Our clinic is the perfect place for busy professional drivers. They don’t need an appointment and our flexible hours (Monday through Friday 8am to 8pm and 9am to 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays) make it easy to work around their schedules.”
