Zephyrhills, FL (June 14, 2014) – Zephyrhills Mayor Gene Whitfield has signed, sealed and delivered a letter to the President―former President George H.W. Bush Sr. that is―congratulating him on his milestone 90th birthday tandem jump, and thanking him for his inspirational commitment to healthy and active living.
Mayor Whitfield also took the opportunity to invite the President to celebrate his next milestone jump at Skydive City in Zephyrhills-and offered to pay for it. Skydive City is the world-renowned jump zone located at the Zephyrhills Municipal Airport, and this year’s host for the 5th Annual FAI World Championships of Canopy-Piloting November 1-7.
“Whether President Bush knows it or not, he is an inspiration to so many people around the world, not just for his years of public service, but for the example he sets by making every day count and living an active, healthy life well into his golden years,” said Mayor Whitfield. “I felt compelled to communicate that on behalf of the citizens of Zephyrhills, and in the spirit of Zephyrhills’ commitment to the ‘Healthy 100’ lifestyle. It would be a thrill for all of us to see him jump here at Skydive City on the day he turns 100,” the Mayor added. “In fact, if he would like to bring President George W. Bush and Governor Jeb Bush along with him, we’ll arrange so they can all jump together!”
As a World War II veteran, the President would feel right at home in Zephyrhills. The Zephyrhills Airport was once a WWII training facility and is currently home to the Zephyrhills Museum of Military History.
Zephyrhills is a community of approximately 14,000 residents located in booming Pasco County, the growth corridor for the Tampa Bay super-region.
The City is known for its pure, clean water. Zephyrhills Natural Spring Water―a Nestles America brand―has been bottled in Zephyrhills using water from the Crystal Springs natural preserve for more than 50 years. It is said that early settlers to the area migrated specifically to take advantage of the healing waters of the Florida aquifer that bubbled to the surface.
It is not surprising then that Zephyrhills has been a favored place to settle for well over a century for young families, as well as retirees seeking active, healthy living. First-class medical institutions like Florida Hospital Zephyrhills and Florida Medical Group have campuses in Zephyrhills and the town abounds with recreational opportunities for thrill-seekers who find their way from around the world to Skydive City as well as for recreational aviators and hobbyists who love the convenience and accessibility of the Zephyrhills Airport. Golf, parades, festivals, hiking and biking trails, fishing and historic district shopping and dining make up the perfect combination for anyone pursuing the “Healthy 100” lifestyle, and the choice is Clearly Zephyrhills!
