Lakeland, FL – Watson Clinic congratulates Julie Bowne, MS, CCC-SLP, lead/senior speech-language pathologist at our Bella Vista Building location, for recently earning certification as a McNeill Dysphagia Therapy Program (MDTP) provider.
An MDTP provider is uniquely qualified to administer exercise-based therapies for swallowing disorders, also known as dysphagia. The techniques Ms. Bowne is certified to administer are effective in rehabilitating many adult patients who struggle with chronic dysphagia, such as some patients with a history of head and neck cancer, stroke and long-term history of feeding tube dependency.
“I sought out this certification because it provides a systematic, research-based approach to swallowing disorders for patients that have not been able to safely resume eating or drinking by mouth.” said Bowne. “The McNeill Dysphagia Therapy program is yet another tool that I can utilize to maximize patient outcomes and give hope to those patients that have failed previous traditional swallowing therapy.”
Ms. Bowne earned her Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of South Florida in Tampa. She specializes in treating disorders related to swallowing, voice, stroke, articulation/language, facial paralysis, TMJ dysfunction and craniofacial anomalies.
Appointments with Watson Clinic’s speech-language pathologists are scheduled by physician referral only. For more information, please call 863-680-7486 or visit www.WatsonClinic.com.
