On Friday, June 20th at 7 pm, St. Petersburg Preservation and Sight Real Estate will host a Preservation Porch Party at the historic Euclid School at 1090 10th St. N St Petersburg. The party will celebrate the recent purchase of the property by Sight Real Estate, who intends to designate the former school a local historic landmark and convert it into residential condominiums.
The Euclid School was built in 1924 during St. Petersburg’s incredible 1920s boom. The building maintains a staggering number of original features, including terrazzo floors, spectacular windows, and cast concrete moldings. The conversion of the school into condominiums is an excellent example of adaptive re-use, and is in keeping with a recent trend in St. Petersburg to re-use structures in a way that celebrates their history.
Many of St. Petersburg’s most popular hot-spots are located in re-used historic structures: Red Mesa Cantina and Café Alma are located in the city’s first fire station, the Birchwood Inn and Canopy Lounge occupy a renovated 1920s hotel that is a local historic landmark, St. Pete Shuffle happens weekly at the preserved Shuffleboard Courts, and artists make their studios in abandoned warehouses in the Warehouse Arts District. These are the locations that tourists and residents celebrate and which prove that preservation makes good economic sense!
The June 20th Porch Party, generously sponsored by Sight Real Estate, will feature food from the nearby Banyan Café, music by Sunset Bridge Band, and tours of the historic school. Tickets are $10 for St. Petersburg Preservation Members and members of the Euclid Neighborhood Association, and $15 for non-members. Price includes two drink tickets and food from the Banyan Café. Proceeds benefit St. Petersburg Preservation. Reservations are encouraged. Reservations and tickets available here: http://www.stpetepreservation.org/event-917164
