with “Queen’s Feast” Menu
(Longboat Key, FL) All hail the Queen! As a staff member for the past three years, Brianne Wilson, 21, has had many roles at Euphemia Haye restaurant. She rotates between working as a host, cocktail waitress and a server in the Haye Loft, and in April she added one more “job” to her resume – Queen! Desoto Queen, that is. This Spring, Brianne was crowned Queen of the Desoto Heritage Festival in Manatee County and her fellow Euphemia co-workers and owners, Ray and D’Arcy Arpke, couldn’t be more proud!
“I got a big hug from everyone when I came back to work,” says Brianne. “Everyone said, ‘We knew you could do it!” D’Arcy and Ray were big fans of Brianne far before she was crowned Queen. Ray admits, “We try to hire the highest caliber of people here and when I interviewed her, I could tell right off that she was a star.” D’Arcy (Euphemia Haye’s original queen) adds, “She was so sweet but very shy at first. Her confidence has really blossomed over the last couple of years.” Brianne agrees. “Working here has really helped me come out of my shell. When I first started, I wasn’t comfortable talking to anyone! I would give the dessert tour and people would say, ‘Speak up! Speak up!’ But now I feel good talking in front of people which really helped me during the pageant’s interviews and also with my stage presence.” Brianne gives D’Arcy credit for helping her rehearse for the pageant’s interviews for which she needed to know the history of Hernando Desoto and his discovery of Florida and the Southeast. “I had flashcards that I would study,” says Brianne, “and when we were slow, D’Arcy would quiz me on them and ask me questions that I wouldn’t have thought of, so she really helped me be prepared!”
Her efforts of becoming a sharp student certainly paid off as Brianne was crowned Desoto Queen on April 25, 2014. As she takes on new “queenly” duties as an ambassador of the Desoto Historical Society and Manatee County, she will also continue to work upstairs at Euphemia Haye’s Haye Loft. In honor of Brianne’s accomplishment, Euphemia Haye has created a summer menu special called the “Queen’s Feast” where guests can eat like a queen and enjoy a three-course dinner for $36.
Brianne is honored to have the special menu named on her behalf. “It’s so touching,” she says. “It will be fun to listen to my co-workers explain to the guests why the menu is called the Queen’s Feast.” During the summer, Brianne will often be on-hand working at her “regular” job in the Haye Loft, so if you come upstairs for the Queen’s Feast, you may also get to meet the queen herself! Although she probably won’t be wearing her crown or sash, she says she will be glad to pose for photos with guests and give them a brief lesson on Desoto history. “If you want to know what Desoto was looking for in Florida and why we he named us Florida, I can fill you in!”
The special “Queen’s Feast” menu is only available upstairs at the Haye Loft on Sundays – Thursdays beginning June 16th (from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.) and continuing through the end of August.
From the pre-set “Queen’s Feast” menu, guests can choose one appetizer, one entrée and one dessert. The Queen’s Feast menu includes many “favorites” from Euphemia’s regular menu including the famous Caesar Salad and Roast Duckling. Euphemia Haye and the Haye Loft are located at 5540 Gulf of Mexico Drive, Longboat Key, Florida. Since 1980, the restaurant has been lovingly owned and operated by Executive Chef Raymond Arpke and his wife D’Arcy Arpke, the restaurant Operations Director. In 1992, Chef Ray and D’Arcy transformed the upstairs of the restaurant into the Haye Loft. It was once three apartments, the largest of which belonged to Les Buntin, Euphemia Haye’s original owner. The Haye Loft now includes a lounge and dessert bar that offers visitors with an upscale atmosphere, top shelf liquors and live music seven nights a week.
