“We conducted a thorough review of high-quality candidates from across the country in this months-long search process,” said Gary Patterson, Ph.D., USFSP Finance professor and chair of the RVCAA search committee.” We were particularly impressed with the entrepreneurial spirit that Han brings to this position, and we welcome him and his family to the USF St. Petersburg community.”
“Dr. Reichgelt is an outstanding choice for this position,” Dr. Wisniewska said. ”He offers a combination of experience, academic rigor and commitment to student success that matches the aspiration of our strategic plan. He will be an important voice as we develop and implement key strategies to ensure our momentum. I am very pleased to have Han as an academic partner and leader.”
Most recently, Reichgelt was with Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Georgia, where he served as Dean of the School of Computing and Software Engineering since 2007. Prior to that, he held appointments at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia; the University of the West Indies, Mona, Kingston, Jamaica; the University of Nottingham, England; and the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. Reichgelt offers research expertise in the areas of Computing Education, IT Service Delivery Quality and Health Information Technology.
“Initially, even before I interviewed, I was most impressed by the level of scholarly activity of USFSP’s students and faculty,” said Reichgelt. “After my interviews, I was truly impressed by the people I met. I look forward to working closely with Chancellor Wisniewska and the faculty to build on the university’s deep commitment to student success.”
Reichgelt earned his Ph.D. in Cognitive Science from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, U.K., and an M.A. in Philosophy and a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Nijmegen, Netherlands. He’ll join the USFSP campus in late July.
“USF St. Petersburg is a marvelous institution already and I believe that it has the potential to become even greater,” said Reichgelt. “I am honored to be able to make a contribution to its further growth.”
Reichgelt takes over for Vivian Fueyo, Ph.D., who has served as Interim Regional Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs since last summer. Fueyo is a professor of Childhood Education with extensive leadership and research experience. From 2003 to 2012, she served as founding Dean of the College of Education and led the College to its initial national accreditation by the National Council for the Accreditation of Colleges of Education.
“We owe a debt of gratitude to Dr. Fueyo for the extraordinary dedication and insights she brought to Academic Affairs,” said Wisniewska. “Over the last year, she played an integral role in the development of our strategic plan, particularly around our goals of academic excellence and student success, and I look forward to continuing to work closely with her in taking USFSP to its next level.”
