Sarasota, FL (May 2014) – Osprey Real Estate Services announces the installation of a charging station for electric cars:
In December 2013, Osprey Real Estate Services was excited to welcome Atkins North America, Inc. as a new tenant at Osprey Commerce Center, 100 Paramount Drive, Sarasota, FL.
Atkins Global is an engineering firm providing solutions to the world’s infrastructure needs. With over 18,000 people globally, projects range from airports, dams, highways, pipelines and power plants. As engineers they are obligated by profession to make the best use of the world’s natural resources. Supporting the electrification of its personal transportation is in line with Atkins’ mission.
Atkins has maintained an office in Sarasota County since 1978 but in the end of 2013 the lease at their existing location was going to expire. While searching for a new location, Atkins contacted the Economic Development Corporation and were told that no commercial buildings in Sarasota County provided access to Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) for electric vehicles (EVs). Once the final three short-listed locations were selected, Atkins staff requested a charging station be installed at each of these facilities and only one real estate company listened – Osprey Real Estate Services.
As a final component of the lease negotiations, a 240-volt charging station was installed at Osprey Commerce Center. Osprey installed a pair of Level 2 EVSE and designed the electrical components for an additional two more in the future. Two parking spaces were designated, striped and signed for EVs. Osprey then took this to another level by coordinating the use of existing proxy access cards, which are already assigned to individuals using the building, to billing. To that effect, billing can be done directly to the person in the building using the EVSE but also it prohibits the use of the station by unauthorized persons.
“Other than public EVSE around town, this is the first Sarasota County commercial building to provide their tenants this amenity. Osprey Real Estate Services & Management Companies are clearly leading the charge! “stated Mr. Sharek.
“ The decision to join efforts with Mr. Sharek, who is so passionate about electric cars, and install a charging station at Osprey Commerce Center was easy and fits with Osprey’s vision and commitment to support innovative companies in their effort to promote clean energy ” added Lori Hellstrom, Director of Leasing for Osprey South Florida. “We are open to the idea of adding charging stations to our other buildings, including the Sarasota City Center, downtown”.
Osprey owns and operates a portfolio comprised of over 4 million square feet of commercial properties located in Florida, North Carolina, Michigan and suburban Washington DC.
Since May 2011, Chris Sharek has put over 44,000 miles on his Chevy Volt, organized multiple education events, and even self-published The Electric Vehicle rEVolution. His book received an endorsement from the famous author and part-time Sarasotian Stephen King, who also owns a Chevy Volt.
