Manatee County Search / Rescue is proud to introduce the launch of a new county-wide program called Project Lifesaver. Boar’s Head corporate and employees graciously donated a combined $22,000 to bring this program to Manatee County. Project Lifesaver is designed to help first responders find individuals that tend to wander quickly. When these individuals go missing, time is of the essence and searching for these people with traditional methods can take several hours or even days. Project Lifesaver is proven itself to be effective time and time again with an average search time of 30 minutes!
First started in 1999, Project Lifesaver is designed for people with cognitive disorders that cause them to wander such as Alzheimer’s, dementia, Autism Spectrum Disorders and Down Syndrome. The individual is fitted with a small transmitter about the size of a watch around the wrist or ankle. This device then sends out a signal every second which allows specially trained search / rescue members to locate the individuals using a receiver.
In an effort to keep this program funded and help families in need of this device, we are holding a Yard Sale Fundraiser June 28th at Conley RV. Everything that is donated to this cause is tax-deductible and all donations can be can be dropped off at 704 Cortez Road West, Bradenton, FL 34205. We will take knick knacks, bric a brac, antiques, jewelry, gently used clothing, tools, artwork, small appliances, electronics and more. Please do not bring furniture, vehicles or other large and bulky items.
Unfortunately we have found that many families in need of this program for their loved one cannot afford the start-up fee of $300. Therefore we are also asking for cash/check donations from individuals and business that will allow us to design affordable payment plans as well as sponsorships for those that need the assistance. You may also go online to ManateeCountySAR.org and click on the donations page on the left side of the screen.
If you would like more information about Project Lifesaver or would like to enroll a loved one please contact MCSAR at ProjectLifesaver@ManateeCountySAR.org or call 941-524-6490 ext. 2.
