May 23, 2014 – Bradenton, FL –Tony DeFillippo, volunteer with The Food Bank of Manatee, has won the Bradenton Maruaders “All-Stars Among Us” contest. Food Bank officials nominated Tony for his dedication, eagerness, and commitment to helping at The Food Bank, Manatee County’s largest hunger-relief organization. Tony is one of three winners in the Non-Profit Volunteers category.
DeFillippo volunteers almost 30 hours every week; he started with sorting food, but began interested in more food bank operations so now helps with donations, unloading trucks, weighing food, writing receipts, and assisting the agencies who receive food from the food bank.
He brings his passion for the food bank home with him, too. DeFillippo creates food drives in his own residential community, in an effort to support The Food Bank of Manatee. He collects enough non-perishable items that they are picked up every Friday.
“Tony is always willing to help wherever he can,” says Blane Turpin, VP Food Bank Community Relations. “He is part of our team and he has definitely proven to be an All-Star.”
DeFillippo and his fellow winners will be recognized at the June 14th All-Star Game at McKechnie Field.
