Description: Jonathan Madzinga’s acrylic on canvas paintings typically portray everyday scenes like men fishing, women gossiping and children playing, while some feature well-known locations such as Times Square and even St. Pete’s Central Avenue. His pieces are visually striking with bold, vibrant brush strokes that are full of character, color and the life he so well knows.
Biography: Jonathan Madzinga was born on the 15th of January 1985 in Bulawayo, in the Math South region of Zimbabwe. He began painting at the age of six, encouraged by his father who was a painter and recognized his talent. Soon he was introduced to the National Art Gallery in Bulawayo, where Jonathan developed his appreciation for fine art. He received tertiary art training at the Mzilikazi Art and Craft Centre, and was a resident artist at the National Gallery of Bulawayo. Since 2002 Jonathan has exhibited in Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa, The Netherlands, UK, Dubai, Canada, USA and Australia. His paintings are about life and living, enjoying making people happy and sharing his culture.
Jonathan had most recently ‘taken up residence’ at the Creative Soul Studio & Coffee Shop at 2425 Central Avenue in Midtown, St. Petersburg, as his home base while in the U.S. Customers could see him work and converse with him any time of the day in the shop. Currently, Jonathan is Artist in Residence at The Gold Coast Art School in Australia, where he runs workshops with Primary State School students, has produced a large mural and currently exhibits.
