Tampa, FL — The Outback Bowl has announced Kevin Smith, Director of Sports of the St. Petersburg Clearwater Sports Commission, has been elected to the post of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the popular New Year’s Day college bowl game located in Tampa. Smith has been on the Outback Bowl Board of Directors since 1992, is former chair of the bowls Team Selection Committee and a long-time volunteer of the bowls popular “Clearwater Beach Day” event.
“I am honored to serve as the Chairman of the 2015 Outback Bowl,” notes Smith. “The Outback Bowl is one of college football’s premier bowl games and has brought some of the sports’ best teams and fans to Tampa Bay and showcasing the region for 28 years. I’m looking forward to working with CEO Jim McVay and his staff to continue that success.”
Additional officers elected by the board for the 2014-15 bowl include: Bill Cammarata, retired MetLife executive, as Vice Chairman; Todd Buchanan, Senior Vice President, VALIC Financial Advisors, as Vice Chair of Hillsborough County; Todd Timmerman, Partner at Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP, as Vice Chair of Pinellas County; Tim Love, Senior Vice President, Wells Fargo Insurance Services, as Secretary; and Troy Atlas, Senior Vice President, Investments, Raymond James Financial, as Treasurer.
The Outback Bowl is played in Raymond James Stadium and will celebrate its 29th game this season. Over its history it has brought more than a million out of market visitors to the region while creating an estimated $1 billion in economic impact and distributing over $116 million to universities. The game will be played January 1, 2015, the 27th year as part of the New Year’s Day line-up, featuring teams from the Big Ten Conference and Southeastern Conference.
