Local art students will showcase their artistic talents in a special
t-shirt design contest for the family owned salon.
Sarasota, Florida, May 2014 – Cutting Loose Salon has partnered up with Braden River High School’s Art Department for a unique opportunity for the art students. The artists were asked to design a Cutting Loose t-shirt that will be available for sale at each of the salon’s three locations. The shirt design must be unique and embody the cutting-edge style of the salon.
The top five shirt designs have been selected and Cutting Loose Salon is relying on the community to help pick the winner. Voting begins now and will end May 31. (Click here to vote.) One voter from each salon location will be selected to receive a $50 Gift Certificate. The winner will be revealed at Cutting Loose on Main Street’s second anniversary celebration on Friday, June 27th. The top five artists and their families and friends will be invited to the special anniversary celebration for the announcement of the winning t-shirt design.
“At Cutting Loose Salon, we strive to support local arts, culture, and business. I have always wanted to have custom t-shirts featuring local artwork to offer to our guests in the salon,” says Coral Pleas, salon owner and master stylist. “This is an amazing opportunity to do just that! We are excited to involve the young talent at Braden River High School to launch this fun idea.”
Taelor Scheuer, Managing Partner of Cutting Loose on Main Street and the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce 2013 Young Professional of the Year, conceptualized this contest with the goal of inspiring the young students to share their passion with their local community. She personally spoke to the students about the Cutting Loose journey, how the family-owned salon went from a single location with five employees to five locations with over 50 employees in just five years.
“I wanted to share our passion that we have for our industry, our guests and team members. I wanted to open these growing artists up to the possibility of following their dreams and not letting anyone tell them that they cannot do something,” says Scheuer. “Talent, without passion, is a job. Passion, without talent, is a hobby. But being talented in something that you are passionate about, that is your calling.”
She continues, “So it’s important to me for other young professionals to see value in staying in Sarasota to continue to grow, learn, and start their life. When I met with the kids, I could feel their energy in the room. They were full of excitement, and it rubbed off on me! It’s an honor and a privilege to be able to work with these young talents.”
Cutting Loose Salon has narrowed the selection from 10 entries to the top 5, and now is relying on the Sarasota community to select the winner. The entry that receives the most votes will be printed on t-shirts that will be available for purchase at the three salon locations: Main Street in Downtown Sarasota, University Park and Lakewood Ranch. The voting will end May 31, and the winner will be announced at Cutting Loose on Main Street’s second anniversary celebration on Friday, June 27th. Voters have the chance to win a $50 gift certificate to Cutting Loose.
