The Greater Tampa Bay Chapter of Women In Defense (WID GTB) will host Mary Carlin Yates, former US ambassador to Burundi and Ghana, and former diplomat in three major geographic areas: Africa, Europe and Asia. Yates will address luncheon attendees at the Tampa Yacht & Country Club on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, with a presentation reflecting on the role of women in national security.
“Ambassador Yates has decades of experience around the world, and we are looking forward to gaining knowledge and insight we can use as we move forward in a changing defense environment,” says Trudy Daniels, president of the WID GTB. “Tampa Bay’s business community can truly leverage her vast knowledge, so we hope to see attendees from all aspects of business in the area.”
AMB (Ret) Yates works as an independent consultant with Deloitte after a diverse and highly acclaimed 31-year diplomatic career. In addition to her work as an ambassador, Yates was the first-ever civilian Deputy in a regional Military Command (DCMA) at the US Africa Command. She also served as Special Assistant to the President as well as Chargé d’affaires in Embassy Khartoum.
June’s Women in Defense event is sponsored by Amerprise Financial and the speaker sponsor is Deloitte Consulting LLP. Luncheon tickets are $25 ($20 for members) and the event is open to all.
