“Fifth Third Feeding Families” Food Drive Collects 242 Barrels of
Donations for Metropolitan Ministries and Agape Food Bank
TAMPA, Fla., May 8, 2013 – Fifth Third Bank recently wrapped up its month-long “Fifth Third Feeding Families” campaign, reaching its goal of helping to feed more than 5,300 Tampa Bay-area families in need. More than 242 barrels of food donations were collected in total; 117 barrels were delivered to Metropolitan Ministries – a faith-based nonprofit that provides support to hungry children and families in the four-county Tampa Bay region – and, 125 barrels went to Lakeland-based Agape Food Bank. The amount of food collected will help feed more than 9,680 families – far surpassing the bank’s goal of 5,300 families in honor of “Fifth Third Day.”
Fifth Third banking centers throughout the bank’s 12-state footprint also celebrated “Fifth Third Day,” an annual celebration on May 3 (5/3), by providing more than 550,000 meals to fight hunger. For more than 20 years, the Bank has used its holiday to recognize the contribution of its employees, thank its customers and support communities where it operates.
In an effort to continue giving back to the community, more than 50 Fifth Third employees and their families volunteered, sorting food items, preparing meals, serving residents and cleaning rooms at the new Emergency Care Center at Metropolitan Ministries in downtown Tampa.
“This is the fifth year we have partnered with Metropolitan Ministries on the annual food drive,” said Brian Lamb, president and CEO of Fifth Third Bank (North Florida). “Our team is committed to improving the lives of our customers and the well-being of the communities we serve, and I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of a group that cares so much about the Tampa Bay region.”
The donated items were collected throughout the month of April throughout all 48 Fifth Third banking centers in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Polk counties.
“The effects of hunger continue to impact the Tampa Bay area,” said Tim Marks, president and CEO of Metropolitan Ministries. “We’re grateful for our long-standing partnership with Fifth Third Bank and for their help in collecting and encouraging others to donate food to help families in need, right here in our community.”
