(ST. PETE BEACH, FL., April 22, 2014) – Secrets of the Sea Marine Exploration Center and Aquarium has partnered with the Guy Harvey Outpost of St. Pete Beach to maintain new aquariums now being constructed at Guy Harvey’s Rumfish Bar & Grill in St Pete Beach, FL, including the spectacular 33,500 gallon aquarium built by Wayde King and Brett Raymer of Acrylic Tank Manufacturing (ATM). The building and installation of the aquarium will appear in the episode of Animal Planet’s “Tanked” airing May 16th at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.
“Over the past year, Secrets of the Sea’s Curator, Butch Ringelspaugh and Lead Aquarist, Zachary Ostroff have been instrumental in the conceptualization and planning of the aquarium, one of the largest in the Tampa Bay area,” said Mark Luther, Board Chair of Secrets of the Sea. “And as construction progresses, Secrets of the Sea continues to play a critical role in the preparation and installation of the Rumfish marine attraction, serving as the primary party responsible for fish species selection and marine life procurement.”
Once completed, Ostroff will take over as Curator for Secrets of the Sea and be the on-site Marine Animal Specialist for the Guy Harvey Outpost, responsible for planning and overseeing guest snorkeling and educational programs at the attraction. He will also direct aquarium maintenance services and the monitoring of filtration and life support systems.
The mission of Secrets of the Sea is to enhance the public’s understanding of the value and fragility of the local and global marine environment through research, education and personal experiences. Partnering with Guy Harvey Outpost and TradeWinds Resorts on this endeavor is an excellent opportunity for Secrets of the Sea to continue educating the public about the local marine ecosystem as it continues to evaluate locations for a permanent home in Pinellas County.
