The law firm of Butler Pappas Weihmuller Katz Craig has inked a lease in Rivergate Tower — aka the Sykes Building — with plans to move its offices there by second quarter 2015. The firm is leaving One Harbour Place on Harbour Island, where it has been headquartered for about 10 years.
Barry Hanerfeld and KC Tenukas, senior vice presidents at Cassidy Turley, represented the landlord, In-Rel Properties. Commercial Advisory Service’s Rick Wolfe represented Butler Pappas.
The law group has leased 61,276 square feet, encompassing floors 22, 23, 24 and a majority of 5. The space is gutted at the moment.
Butler Pappas, which has 78 lawyers in its Tampa office, specializes in defense and insurance litigation. The firm was founded in 1979 and now has offices in Chicago, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Tallahassee, Mobile and Miami. The firm is leaving roughly 65,000 square feet at One Harbour Place in Tampa.
Hanerfield said that when In-Rel acquired the 31-story tower two years ago, it was 50 percent occupied. Currently, it’s at 69 percent. When Butler Pappas moves in, it will take Rivergate Tower to 80 percent capacity.
