Proclaiming April as Water Conservation and Springs Protection Month
LECANTO, FL, April 16, 2014 — Withlacoochee Regional Water Supply Authority’s Board of Directors representing Citrus, Hernando, Marion and Sumter counties will be accepting applications for its fiscal year 2014-15 Local Government Grants Program, beginning May 1, 2014. Applications will be accepted no later than June 30, 2014, and the program is intended to fund water conservation-related projects on a matching basis. Applications and instructions are found on the Authority’s website at www.wrwsa.org. Proposals will be considered by the Authority’s Board of Directors at the July and August meetings, and grants will be awarded at the September meeting. The Authority voted to set aside $130,000 for these grants while voting to retain the current year per capita assessment rate of $0.19. Water conservation continues to be the most cost-effective way to stretch limited fresh ground water supplies in order to meet the region’s growing demand. Resolutions were adopted by the Board proclaiming April as both water conservation and springs protection month. The next Authority Board of Directors meeting will be on May 21st at 3:30 pm at the Lecanto Government Building, Room 166, 3600 W. Sovereign Path, Lecanto, Florida 34461.
