Handy, helpful guides by local authors make finding your next home and making your next move easier and more enjoyable
Tampa, FL (April 16, 2014) – There’s so much more to moving than packing – and unpacking – boxes or navigating your way around an unfamiliar new town. For anyone considering a move to the fast-growing Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area, two new books by authors with Florida roots provide essential guides that make it much easier to feel at home in Tampa and St. Pete.
Both books provide insights and information that quickly bring readers up to speed about local history, annual events, leading industries, cost of living benefits as well as some of the area’s world-class attributes that include excellent medical facilities, outstanding beaches, and exceptional arts and cultural resources.
Florida-based publisher Voyager Media, Inc. initiated this new series of Un-Tourist Guides in 2013 when it published the inaugural title, “Moving to Naples: The Un-Tourist Guide” as a resource to help new and prospective residents learn what it’s like to live, work and play in that city.
In 2013, Voyager also published ‘Un-Tourist Guides’ to Sarasota, FL and Charlotte, N.C. which help newcomers to quickly assimilate in two of the country’s fastest growing communities “Moving to St. Petersburg” and “Moving to Tampa” are the first 2014 editions and will be available in both print and eBook formats. “Moving to Austin” will follow in July 2014.
“As frequent movers in years past, we always wished for a book that made it easy to feel at home in a new town. Our own relocation adventures inspired the Un-Tourist Guides which begin with one of our favorite cities, Naples, Florida,” said Newt Barrett, president and publisher of Voyager Media, Inc.
The books provide vivid descriptions and full-color images of each area that enliven a host of practical information. Discover scenic locations to watch sunsets. Find the best place to purchase home furnishings or to track down the latest fashions. Get advice about where to enjoy a special evening out. Learn about transportation options. Uncover great ideas for family fun.
Authors Cindy Dobyns and Mary Lou Janson are well acquainted with their respective cities. Each offers the knowledgeable perspective that can only be gained by actually having enjoyed years of living in St. Petersburg and Tampa.
As Dobyns writes of St. Petersburg:
“Multi-generational families and business owners here have known all along what a great place it is to live, to work, and to play. Compared to other cities of its age, St. Petersburg is unspoiled and beautiful year round.”
Dobyns is the founder of AboveWater Public Relations and Marketing, an agency serving hospitality and travel industry clients nationwide. A graduate of the University of South Florida, she grew up on Treasure Island and always had a plan to return to the area.
And Janson notes about Tampa:
“Welcome to Tampa, a great city that continues to thrive, thrill, surprise, delight and exceed all expectations. Great cities are both love-able and live-able. They exude excitement and energy. They are dynamic and diverse. They are appealing and affordable.”
Janson is a native of North Carolina and Ohio transplant who has spent most of her life in the Tampa Bay area and much of it writing about her hometown for newspapers, magazines and online outlets. She is a freelance writer and a public relations consultant.
