|THE INAUGURAL PINWHEEL 5K RUN AND A 5K FITNESS CHALLENGE WILL TAKE PLACE AT NATHAN BENDERSON PARK SATURDAY APRIL 19, 2014 AT 9:00 A.M. THE EVENT IS HOSTED BY FIT2RUN AND AREA CROSSFIT FACILITIES TO BENEFIT THE FAMILY PARTNERSHIP CENTER.
The Inaugural PINWHEEL 5K RUN/WALK is taking place at NATHAN BENDERSON PARK as a multi event 9:00 a.m., Saturday April 19, 2014. Registration starts at 7:00 a.m. at the National Rowing Center, Nathan Benderson Park off of University Parkway, Sarasota, Florida. This is a multi family oriented athletic event which includes a 5K Run/Walk, One Mile Walk, Kid’s Races plus a feature 5K Run and Fitness competition with stations sponsored by regional CrossFit training “box” facilities.
The 5K Chip Timed PINWHEEL Run/Walk route takes in the perimeter of the scenic rowing center at Nathan Benderson Park. There is also a one mile walk and Kid’s races for 3 to 12 years. In addition to the PINWHEEL 5K, there is a 5K run and fitness competition sponsored by regional CrossFit facilities and includes various station challenges. These athletes will perform and compete in the various activities associated with the Fitness program. There are special crafted awards for the PINWHEEL 5K top winners, age category winners, Kid’s race winners, and Elite Fitness winners. The children receive their special cotton competitor’s shirt, finisher medal and trophies to the top three boys and girls in the 3-4; 5-6; 7-9; and 10 to 12 age groups.
April is designated as Child Abuse Prevention month and this event features “Pinwheels for Prevention,” part of a national campaign to draw attention to and promote individual action to make children a priority. Family Partnership Center (FPC), the benefiting organization, was founded in 1994 with an unchanged mission to provide quality parenting education programs to strengthen families and prevent child abuse. FPC supports families and protects children by providing in-home and group parenting education programs to address the unique needs of each family. Currently the Center services 3,500 parents and children annually in DeSoto, Manatee & Sarasota Counties. Services are free to families.
